Overview The CVICU at the University of Minnesota Medical Center (East Bank) is a 16 bed adult critical care unit for cardiovascular patients. We care for patients who have had coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also manages patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and a high technical skill set. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. Required:
