This position is located at James J. Peters VA Medical Center working in the Renal Transplant Department. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the administrative and clinical operations of the Renal Transplant Department. The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information. The incumbent serves as a member of a clinical renal transplant medical and surgical team, which performs renal transplant examinations, and procedures such as collection and labeling of laboratory specimens including blood, stool and urine and transportation of specimens, reporting and recording significant signs, symptoms or behavioral changes. The incumbent will be responsible and accountable for a variety of technical work of a medical nature and care to patients scheduled for treatment of illness, preventive health care, and pre- and post-operative care. Reports directly to the clinic supervisor and physician to assist him/her in providing a wide variety of skilled technical care to adult patients in an outpatient setting. Your basic responsibilities will include (but not limited to): Compiles clinical charts for patient appointment visit including preparing documents needed for signature Prepares education folders for both pre- and post- transplant care Escorts patients to exam rooms, prepares patients for examination, including equipment and materials needed by physicians, assists the physician/clinical provider during exams Performs the collection, labeling, handling, and delivering of laboratory specimens, including blood, stool and urine specimens to the laboratory Performs standard 12-lead EKGs Completes work orders; sets clinic up for next day; retrieves medical profiles and laboratory results as needed Scans and maintain all essential renal transplant related documents into CPRS Vista Imaging for records Investigates problems related to patient care and services, reporting all unusual circumstances to the Supervisor/Designee so that management may be kept abreast of events Incumbent uses the scheduling options to schedule outpatient clinic appointments or uses the scheduling option for an administrative function (close encounters; no-shows) Performs other duties as assigned.
