Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Physician (Associate Chief of Staff), Surgical Services responsible for overall operation, oversight and performance measures of all Surgical Service operations at the CTVHCS. A RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE MAY BE AUTHORIZED FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE The Associate Chief of Staff will provide administrative, clinical and programmatic leadership for the service to ensure achieved performance measures to include planning, developing and directing administrative and clinic functions of the Surgical Service. Also includes oversight of inpatient surgery beds which are located on a combined medical/surgical ward, outpatient subspecialty clinics, and could include clinical practice and oversight responsibility for residents and students. The position reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Director. Outstanding interpersonal skills are essential, as the successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary staff in the delivery of excellent health care to our nation's Veterans. Candidates will be innovative thinkers; customer service focused, and has a demonstrated record of clinical and administrative achievements. Other duties include: Budget and fiscal management, human resources management, strategic planning, and program development, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources.??????? Provide leadership and accountability for all aspects of the service, assuring support of the mission and values of this health care system. Utilize data about providers and available resources, to formulate strategic short term and long-range plans and goals for the service, and to address deficiencies. Formulate and implement general policies, procedures, standards, and goals and objectives. Demonstrated leadership in performance improvement and patient safety projects formulating policies and procedures to facilitate short and long range plans and goals for the service. Experienced in progressive and dynamic growth of a complex intermediate level health care system, with strong understanding of the dynamics and supportive data for meeting the needs of the Veteran population. Oversees the administration of medications to patients for whom therapy is indicated. Leads Surgical Service staff meetings as well as attends meetings of the Medical Staff. The physician completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the Medical Staff. Assignment will include rotational on call coverage. The physician will support the safety, occupational health, and fire protection program by the application of approved standards, regulations, practices and work methods. In the performance of official duties, the Physician has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive date which must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHS policy. Protects data information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion and will follow applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc. as set out in a computer access agreement which the employee sign. The selectee will be expected to provide some clinical care in their specialty. Board Certified in his/her specialty, having completed an appropriate residency or fellowship. Surgeons with Board Certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Associate in the following will be considered: Otolaryngology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Thoracic Surgery (non-cardiac) or Podiatry. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 49-54 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 10 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
