The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking a full-time Nursing Assistant (NA) for the Inpatient Psychiatric Units. The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking a full-time Nursing Assistant (NA) for the Acute Mental Health Unit (Ward 7). The NA is a key member of the Acute Mental Health Unit team. The Inpatient Mental Health NA is directly responsible and accountable to the Nurse Manager (NM) and Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM). The NA provides direct patient care to Veterans ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years. This NA demonstrates competence, including specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities in caring for a variety of Inpatient Mental Health patients. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provide structure and maintain a safe therapeutic milieu and recovery-oriented environment to all patients; Perform vital signs, weights, blood sugar, EKG, Bladder scan, etc. Record treatments, findings, and progress in electronic patient record; Recognize emergency situations and report to Primary Nurse; Ensure proper specimen collection; Transport patients and specimens to required destinations; Assist doctors and nurses in the performance of diagnostics examinations; Enter information into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Support Recovery-oriented Inpatient Care by improving therapeutic environment; Serve as preceptor to new and float nursing assistants; Participate in committees and process improvement projects; Perform other duties as assigned.
