This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the supervision direction of the Registered Nurse(RN) and reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager/designee. The LPN requires a general review of their work by an RN for appropriates and conformity with license, policies, and procedures. The incumbent serves as a member of a health care team with assigned duties which include prioritization and coordination of clinical activities with minimal supervision. Major Duties and responsibilities: Obtains patients weight, vital signs and reason for visit. Takes Blood glucose, assists with glucometer including calibration Performs simple dressing changes. Administers medications Triages and priorities patients needs as emergent. urgent, or non-urgent in the clinical setting modifies patient care/treatment as needed Triages consults under the supervision of the RN or NP Checks patients into clinic; interviews patient and/or significant other and documents intake data as per policy Pre- and post-operative teaching for varies surgeries including: orthopedics, general surgery, vascular/thoracic, podiatry, ENT, and urology Cleans and stock rooms between patients. Checks expiration dates of supplies. Cleans, stores and maintains equipment in the clinical area. Prepares packaging for lab samples The LPN sets controls and operates equipment and instruments for diagnostics testing Possesses knowledge of proper handling and pre-cleaning of re-useable medical equipment. Adherence to principles of infection control, safety and universal precautions Participates in performance improvement initiatives and strives to elevate the practice standards in the clinic Maintains confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient information Maintain BLS certification and nursing practice LPN will be crossed trained to work in other clinical areas within surgery services.
