Cardiology Step Down at Duke University Hospital provides care for cardiology medicine patients with a range of diagnoses. The patient population includes but is not limited to the care of acute coronary syndrome, post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, dysrhythmias, heart failure, heart transplant workups and congenital heart disease. These patients require high acuity care and many come directly from the ICU, post procedures or outside hospitals requiring an increased level of care. Many times, these patients encompass a multi-system involvement which can include but is not limed to pulmonary, renal, endocrine and neurology. The environment is fast paced, challenging and a great place to promote and develop your critical thinking skills with many opportunities for professional growth.

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.
