This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The specialized staff RN will provide caring, and compassionate care to a specific patient population admitted to assigned SCI, Polytrauma, Rehabilitation unit. Apply all aspects of rehabilitation process and patient focused care management principles with a holistic and collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting and demonstrate exceptional patient care through utilization of evidence-based practice and human caring science. The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) unit is a challenging specialty bed unit. Patients on this unit may require central/PICC IV lines, and bowel/bladder and wound care. Nursing experience encompasses quadriplegic, ALS, and MS patients requiring medical/surgery quality care. The Tampa VA utilizes modern technology to provide a full range of patient care services. Our 100 bed SCI medical and surgical facility consists of five floors to include a ventilator unit and two long term care units. As a staff Nurse you will provide medical and/or surgical care to acute and chronically ill spinal cord injury Veterans. Duties include but are not limited to: documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patients condition, collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Care of the SCI patients includes related requirements such as rapid response to autonomic dysreflexia, bowel care and use of varied lift equipment. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
