Operation of sonographic equipment, perform and communicate results ofdiagnostic examinations using sonography.
Performs clinical assessment and diagnost icultrasound examinations.Exams include, but may not be limited to, abdo minal, vascular, smallparts, ob-gyn, vascular, infant head/hip/spine, an dinterventionalprocedures.Follow established departmental policy.Uses co gnitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adaptprocedures as a ppropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnosticinformation and images .Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accuratelydiff erentiate between normal and pathologic findings.Analyzes sonograms, syn thesizes sonographic information and medicalhistory, and communicates fi ndings to the Radiologist.Assume responsibility for the safety, mental a nd physical comfort ofpatients while they are in the sonographer's care. Communicate effectively with the patientand the health care team,recogni zing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient'sneeds.A ssists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department.Completes exam tracking/billing accurately on a daily basis.Maintains ultrasound e quipment and work area, and maintains adequatesupplies.Establishes and m aintains productive ethical working relationships withcoworkers, referri ngproviders and commercial agencies.Performs other work-related duties a sassigned.Assist in training of ultrasound students during clinical rota tions.Performs other work-related duties as assignedProficient in the pe rformance of ultrasound procedures and does notrequire assistance from f ellow sonographers.Provide direction and instruction to existing personn el and training tonew sonographers.Assist in teaching of ultrasound tech nology to new physicians,residents, and fellows.Coordinates with others taff toassure appropriate patient care isprovided.Reports equipment fai lures to the appropriate supervisor or staffmember.Participates in the m aintenance of laboratory accreditation.Perform other related duties inci dental to the work herein**DUHS offers career growth and enrichment with in Imaging services.There is a clinical ladder program with various step sand opportunitiesat each hospitalwithin the health system.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Level Characteristi cs
Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required (may substitute with ARDMS certification on or before December 31, 2000) Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements in for specialty (ies) as appropriate. Level I Must obtainARDMS certifications in the following (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular) as required by each entity within 18 months of employment. Level II Minimum of two years' experience as a Sonographer. Level III A minimum of four years' experience within specialty modality which they are seeking promotion BLS certification
