In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: RN PACU/Recovery Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Board certification from a VA approved certifying body. Two (2) years of recent professional (RN) nursing experience RN Emergency Department Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred. Board certification from a VA approved certifying body. Three (3) years of recent Emergency Department or Critical Care professional (RN) nursing experience is strongly preferred. RN Endoscopy: 3-5 years RN experience preferred 2 years' RN experience in Endoscopy and/or Critical Care clinical area preferred 2 years' experience in delivery of moderate sedation preferred Dialysis Bachelor of Science in Nursing ACLS certification Must have at least one year of peritoneal dialysis experience. Must have minimum of 2 - 3 years of clinical experience in acute dialysis inpatient unit Certified Nursing nephrology certification preferred Specialty Clinic Prefer 3+ years RN experience, Prefer previous ambulatory care RN experience Call Center Five years of experience in a clinical call center/telephone triage center to include documented experience in the nursing specialties of telephone triage. Master's Degree Preferred. Public Health and Safety Clinic Prefer 1+ year of RN experience Previous public health nursing experience preferred Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting 45 pounds and over; Heavy carrying 45 pounds and over; Straight pulling (1-2 hrs); Pushing (1-2 hrs); Reaching above shoulder (1-2 hrs); Kneeling; Repeated bending (1-2 hrs); Walking (2-4 hrs); Standing (2-6 hrs); Use of fingers; Use of both hands; Near vision correctable; Far vision correctable; Depth perception; Hearing (aide permitted); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Work closely with others, as well as, protracted or irregular hours of work ["VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards RN PACU/Recovery The PACU nurse duties include, but are not limited to: utilizing critical thinking skills and the nursing process to provide preoperative and paranesthesia phase I / phase II care for patients from various surgical specialties and procedure areas including the Operating Room, Gastroenterology Lab, Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Cath Lab; providing pre-op and post-op education to patients and families; providing short term to extended (1 to 24 hours) care to critical care and/or med-surg patients; and participating as a member of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) code blue team. Nurses rotate between all recovery areas and the various 8-hour tours of duty. RN Emergency Department The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) will serve as a staff nurse who evaluates clinical practice and initiates change based on current concepts and findings from research and/or evidence-based studies. Performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures appropriate to the practice setting. Provides leadership in interpreting, supporting, and implementing Medical Center and Emergency Department philosophy, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and quality improvement processes. Accepts responsibility and maintains accountability for own actions and for professional and personal growth. Serves as a consultant in clinical practice. RN Endoscopy The Gastroenterology/Endoscopy Lab RN will serve as a staff nurse who is responsible for assisting with endoscopic procedures, administering moderate sedation, providing pre-post procedure patient and/or other significant education and GI clinic responsibilities. He/she will evaluate clinical practice and initiate change(s) based on current concepts and findings from research and/or evidence-based studies. Provide leadership in interpreting, supporting, and implementing Medical Center, Nursing Service, and department philosophy, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and quality improvement processes. Dialysis The Registered Nurse (Dialysis), works with inpatients and outpatients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) who require dialysis. Certification as a Dialysis RN is preferred but not mandatory. The Dialysis RN implements and documents nursing care during dialysis, initiates dialysis, monitors patients and dialysis machines, as well as terminates dialysis procedures as indicated. Specialty Clinic The Registered Nurse (RN) selected for this position is accountable to the Associate Nurse Executive for Ambulatory Care and works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and within identified Specialty Care outpatient clinic teams. Responsible for the observation, treatment and care of the Veteran within the scope of Registered Nurse practice. Assists in the overall clinic management, functions and operations, facilitation of patient flow through the check in and check out process. Provides patient education and/or instructions based on identified needs, education level and ability to learn and validates understanding with appropriate documentation in the medical record. Works with multiple specialty clinics. Call Center The Clinical Contact Center (CCC) Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct care and counseling for patients through a virtual care system for the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness based on the application of the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, use of appropriate nursing judgment and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems. Public Health and Safety Clinic Assists in the overall clinic management, functions and operations, facilitation of patient flow through the Special Operations Clinics. Which includes check in and check out process, COVID swab testing, COVID screening , COVID/FLU vaccine clinics, TB Skin testing, and Fit testing and provides patient education and/or instructions based on identified needs, education level and ability to learn and validates understanding with appropriate documentation in the medical record. Works with multiple specialty clinics.
