This position is located in the Medical Imaging section at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital (578), Hines, IL - a complexity level la VHA facility. The incumbent serves as a Health Technician performing a multi-functional role and providing clinical, clerical and technical support for the Radiology Department. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously related to internal and external customers. Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/employee information, electronic and print. How to work and function in the medical center in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. Age/population-specific care, as identified in the age/population-Specific Competencies (see Competency Checklist), including knowledge of principles of growth and development relevant to the population(s) served and associated age-specific changes; ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status; and ability to identify population-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the population-related factors noted. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ["Clinical 1. Assists techs/nurses/physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic imaging exams. 2. Performs, reports and records measurements such vital signs, intake and output, pulse oximetry, glucose finger stick and other parameters. 3. Applies appropriate principles of body mechanics and patient safety in assisting patients with movement, positioning, ambulation, and transportation. Uses assistive devices appropriately. 4. Establish helpful relationships with patients and others, interacts in a courteous manner; explains patient care provided. Provides emotional support, friendly assistance sympathetic understanding and encouragement to patients/families. 5. Contributes to patient well-being by providing assistance with personal hygiene, bowel/bladder care, physical comfort and a clean and safe environment. 6. Identifies obvious patient problems, symptoms, behavioral changes, and deviations from normal in a timely manner. 7.
